Snowflake DWH: Creating a Data Warehouse

Hello, in this blog we will be knowing what is Snowflake and how to create a data warehouse in it. Before moving forward, I would like to clarify one thing is in this blog we are going to talk about Snowflake, which is an organization providing data warehousing service. Now, let’s understand what is Snowflake.

Snowflake is a data warehouse which is built on top of the any cloud service provider like Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud Platform. There’s no need to install, configure or manage any hardware or software so it’s ideal for organizations that don’t want to dedicate resources for setup, maintenance, and support. The thing which makes Snowflake DWH different from any other DWH service provider is the architecture of Snowflake. It allows storage and compute to scale independently, so customers can use and pay for storage and computation separately. So, this is all about Snowflake.

Now let’s see how to create a DWH in Snowflake.

Step 1– Sign in to Snowflake’s website. You can also create a free trail account to explore.

Step 2– Once you are logged-in, click on Warehouse option from the top ribbon

This will list out all the available DWH present.

Step 3– Now, click on create option from the DWH managing section.

Step 4– Now, you will see a dialog box asking from our DWH details like DWH name, size of DWH, auto suspend time and comment(optional)

Once you provided the required details, click on finish.

This is how one can create a data warehouse in Snowflake. In my next blog I’ll show how to create a database and a table in Snowflake.

Thank you for reading this blog. I hope you will find this blog helpful.
