In this blog, we will be seeing how we can use Fields Parameter in Power BI.
The Fields Parameter is a feature that allows us to choose which columns to use to slice and dice the values in a Power BI visual. We can very easily build a Power BI Report by creating the Fields Parameter.
Below are the steps on how we can create Fields Parameter and use them to slice and dice the values in a Power BI visual.
Step 01:
To create a Fields Parameter, go to Modelling Ribbon > New Parameter > Fields.
Step 02:
A Parameters pop-up box will appear. In that, we can choose the columns that we need to be part of the selection.
In the Parameters pop-up box, we can select the columns on which we have to slice from the Fields section and add and reorder the selected fields in the Add and reorder fields section. After adding and reordering, click Create to add Fields Parameter in our Power BI Report.
Step 03:
After you click on Create a slicer will be added to our report page containing the fields we require. Bring the table from the Fields Parameter which we created from the “Fields” Panenamed “Slice By”.
Also, add “Sales” to the Table Visual shown below.
Step 04:
Now, whichever field we’ll select in the slicer. We’ll get the sales for that Field.
Example –
We must see how much Sales have been done for each Category. We’ll select “Category Name” in our slicer “Slice By” and get the following result.
Similarly, we can use other visuals also, which can work with the multiple Fields Parameter slicer. Below is an example of a Metric Visual.
Example –
We must see how much Sales have been done for each Product in each Category. We’ll select “Category Name” & “ProductName” in our slicer “Slice By” and get the following result.
